Northern Dance Centre is a Dance and Performing Arts School
…established in 1948 by Margaret Jaffé, who as a Teacher and Examiner was very well-known and highly regarded throughout the UK and worldwide.
The School has an excellent and long standing reputation for providing a wide variety of Dance and Musical Theatre training, and in the warm, welcoming and vibrant atmosphere our children are treated as young professionals, producing positive, versatile and responsible young students.
We are registered with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) and we are a centre for the London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA), and children are prepared for the exams of each Society. Amy is an Examiner for the ISTD in Modern Theatre and Tap dance.
Our goal is to give each child skills, strength and confidence, encouraging them to achieve, and often to exceed, their fullest potential. Things that are important to the children and teachers alike are treating everyone with kindness and respect, showing quiet confidence and discipline, and reaching out to help others.
The Principal is former pupil Amy Addison who worked closely with Margaret for many years. Amy started dancing at Northern Dance Centre in 1972, and trained professionally at Laine Theatre Arts. After many years teaching in London and Southampton she returned to teach at Northern Dance Centre in 1995 and has been Principal of Northern Dance Centre since 2008.
